Paul Begala Schools Meghan McCain (VIDEO)

Meghan McCain

Meghan McCain got taken to task by Paul Begala during her appearance on “Real Time with Bill Maher” last year, leading her to tell Begala at one point “you clearly know everything and I’m just the blond sitting here.”

David Arquette On Howard Stern

David Arquette, Mainstream Media Hypocrisy

BOB LEFSETZ

What do I know about Courteney Cox?

She started off as Ian Copeland’s secretary and love interest.  And then she was featured in a Bruce Springsteen video back when we were innocent and didn’t realize she wasn’t a fresh young thing plucked from obscurity, but an actress.  Then she was on “Friends” and became rich and famous.

And I don’t care.  You see I’ve been around long enough to know that actors are playing a role.  In other words, they’re not the people you see on screen.  Furthermore, if you’re not self-centered, if you’re not narcissistic, you can’t make it as an actor.  So those of us in contact with these people don’t see them as objects of affection, but two dimensional icons to observe and pass by like billboards.

Did I care that Courteney and David Arquette were breaking up?  Someone had an affair…who cares?

Then I turn on Howard Stern and Mr. Arquette is testifying.

Have you ever been left?  I know it’s hard to leave, but it’s nothing like being left.  It’s like you’re playing third base and the pitcher picks up the ball and goes home.  Like you’re the quarterback, waiting for a hike, but there’s no ball.  You’re ready to give it your all, you’re still in the game, but there is no game.

And then you start to reel.  You love ‘em.  You hate ‘em.  But you’re ready to love ‘em again if they love you.  But they don’t.  That’s the secret of being left.  The person doing the leaving checked out long ago, you’re the last to know, literally, they’ve discussed it with all their friends, even have a plan in order, by time you find out it’s a fait accompli, and it’s devastating.

The Tea Party

If you went to bed early tonight, you may have missed one of the most wonderful gifts that the Teabaggers have ever given to the Democrats:  Alaskan GOP Senate candidate, Joe Miller.

If you wanna catch up on Joe’s recent antics, Lefty Coaster’s rec list diary is a great place to start.

For those of you who would like to know a little bit more about Joe Miller’s ‘security detail’ from Drop Zone Security, follow me below the fold for an adventure in pure wingnut.

BAG NEWS NOTES

MICHAEL SHAW

If Alaska Tea Party Candidate for Senate Joe Miller won’t talk to the press, that didn’t stop his enforcers from “arresting” this local reporter and putting him in handcuffs before the police could let him go.

What is compelling about the picture is how much it fits with the far-right inclination, laced through its hostile rhetoric, to “take the law” into its own hands. Just like the Paladino confrontation with a reporter a few weeks back, this photo is a perfect companion to Frank Rich’s piece this weekend where a little sadism is the rule. In fact, that hallway, the bruisers with those military-style haircuts, and the handcuffs actually gave me a little Abu Ghraib vibe.

Barbara Billingsley Dies at 94

Television

h/t Mark Tully:

The New York Times

The actress Barbara Billingsley passed away on Saturday at the age of 94. Known best for her role as June Cleaver, the mother in the classic 1950s and 1960s sitcom Leave It to Beaver, Billingsley personified for millions the perfect postwar suburban mother. She never quite escaped from the role, going on to voice the nanny in Muppet Babies and play June Cleaver again in The New Leave It to Beaver, a sequel to the original sitcom that aired in the ‘80s.

According to a family spokeswoman,  Billingsley died of a rheumatoid disease at her home in Santa Monica, California. Billingsley married three times and is survived by two sons.

Dan Neil to Tribune: F*** You

Sam Zell is a Douchebag, The Tribune Co.
THE WRAP

Sam Zell will not be drinking at the Redwood Friday night.

About to return to the East Coast for his new gig at the Wall Street Journal, and emailing his goodbyes in a memo to his soon-to-be former colleagues at the L.A. Times Thursday (obtained by LA Observed [1]), Pulitzer Prize-winning car critic Dan Neil had kind words for the paper which he said “saved” him when it hired him in 2002 after a nasty divorce.

Conversely, Neil — who is involved in a class-action suit against Tribune for alleged mismanagement of retirement funds — delivered the equivelent of a single-finger solute to parent-company brass in Chicago.

Here’s the memo:
